People From 50 Cities Across 30 Countries Passed Toilet Paper To Each Other

It’s always nice to hear or read about a community that has come together to achieve a common goal. Whether it’s charitable or not, people tend to appreciate the fact that a group of people managed to come together and do something bigger than themselves.

Enter 19-year-old university student, animator, and filmmaker Kai Forman, who recently rallied up a handful of Redditors to film themselves throwing toilet paper to each other (from their homes, of course—most of us are living in lockdown, after all) wherever they may live. You’re wondering where this is going, right?

Well, he got footage from over 50 people from a number of different locations around the world. He then glued all of these clips together to make a montage of what seems like a single toilet paper roll being thrown around like a hot potato from Brisbane, Australia, all the way around the globe and back.

In an interview with Bored Panda, Kai explained the humble, but very meaningful, origins of this idea:

“Honestly, I came up with the idea so that I would have something to do. I knew people around the world were experiencing the same thing I was, so I wanted to make a video that would show unity. Every day, I read sad news, so, in response, I wanted to do something positive.”

Out of the 200 personal requests and public pleas in subreddits, he got over 50 clips from around the globe

And what started off as an idea quickly turned into a huge project that would net him over 97,000 upvotes and 185 award badges on Reddit within the first day of the video being up.

“I started off by asking my close friends to make videos. Once I got them involved, I asked people on Reddit. I ended up posting on lots of countries’ subreddits and messaging a lot of people!” explained Kai.

People from the US, Canada, Germany, Greece, and many other countries responded with extremely creative videos

The project took around 2.5 weeks to make. Kai said that he reached out to around 200 people, of which many did not respond or said that they would send in their submission, but never did. Still, he got over 50 people involved and that already resulted in an entertaining 3-minute watch!

The video features the lone toilet paper roll in Australia, the US, Canada, France, Greece, Chile, Germany, Colombia, Ireland, Scotland, Lebanon, Malaysia, Ecuador, and a number of other countries. Some countries had multiple submissions coming in from different cities and towns.

Though it may look simple at first, making the video did come with its own challenges, the biggest of which was finding enough people who would be interested in this idea.

Each submission had its own twist to how they passed on the toilet paper roll, resulting in some funny moments

And, then there was this IKEA-inspired highlight that, honestly, stole the show with it’s kookiness

However, those who missed out on getting into this cut can try again as Kai has plans to make a bigger and better version of the video:

“I want to make a version of this video, but with someone from every country in the world! If you know anyone from a country not in the video, get in touch with me!” You can do so by contacting him on Reddit.

It took around 2.5 weeks to create the montage, and there are also plans for a bigger and better sequel!
